Black and White Season - Avant Photographic

Black and White Season - Avant Photographic 27th September to Sunday 4th October 2020

I want to celebrate black and white photography by committing my website and social media to posting only black and white photos from Sunday 27th September to Sunday 4th October - an entire week of wonderful black and white imagery.

You can join in, too. I will be adding posts on Facebook where you can add your own black and white photos and ask for feedback, or just enjoy the conversations with others that love black and white photography!

Black and White photography is beautiful. Black and white photography evokes an emotional connection in a viewer. I think it’s because of watching old films, that are black and white, or the nostalgia of looking at old photographs has trained us socially to associate more emotive feelings with black and white photos.

I want to get people to embrace black and white photography - to immerse themselves in the beauty of the tonality and power of the contrast in black and white photographs

How do I convert my photos to Black and White on my phone?

What app do I get to convert my photos to black and white?

You can download FREE APPS like Snapseed or Photoshop Express

The apps are fairly simple to use, but have more in depth controls that you’ll love to learn to use and as your skills improve, indulge your creative side and express yourself through your photography with the tools available.

Most smartphones allow you to edit photos you take on them to black and white within the camera application. There are other downloadable apps to get that will give you more options.

Also, on social media, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat and WhatsApp all allow you to edit images before you post them or send them to your friends.

What is good to photograph black and white?

Black and white photos can be timeless, portraits on the beach, where the landscape has remained the same for eons, demonstrate this the best. Woodland photos are the same - centuries old trees sheltering and spattering the light on the woodland floor, creating a unique environment for portraits.

Almost any subject looks great in black and white. But, practice, take your photos and then edit them, convert them to black and white on your phone or laptop and see what differences it makes to the tone and mood of your images. Soon, you will see things in nature that you will imagine in black and white, then capture the images with the final photo in mind, exposing and focussing on different areas to achieve your desired result.
